Unfortunately due to the usual set of computer idiots who somehow manage to find fun in leaving 'dodgy' links on Guestbooks etc., we have had to change the use of the BLOG. In future, to add a comment you will need to have registered (for free!) first.

Sunday 18th November - RAF Holmpton Visit
Several club members made the journey to the other side of Hull today after a visit to the bunker at RAF Holmpton was organised by John. Having all met at the Guard Room we enjoyed a quick cup of coffee and then it was through a door and oft into a different world some 80ft under the earth. A world full of dark secrets and some interesting facts and figures. On completion of our highly enoyable and informative tour it was back to the "sunny" outside world and talk of a visit again for 2008.

Remembrance Sunday 11 November
I make no apologies for copying this entry and bringing to the top of the other excellent entries.

We are now approaching Remembrance Sunday, and once again at FARS we will commemorate those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.

For those not familiar with the Club we maintain a Memorial within our grounds for those who lost their lives flying from RAF Sandtoft. Every Remembrance Sunday we hold a service with wreath laying at the Memorial to remember not only them, but all the others who have given their lives, including family, friends and comrades, be they Service personnel or civilian. Once again Sandtoft airfield will provide a plane for a flypast to salute them.

All are welcome to attend the service,  be they Club members or not.

RSGB Certificate acknowledges our Training

I am delighted to tell everyone that FARS has received a Certificate from the RSGB in acknowledgement of our Foundation Examination successes.  This is tribute to the Club, and also to the Trainers, past and present, who actually ran the courses.  The Certificate is for 30 sittings, and we now have over 200 successful sitters.  Well done all concerned.

John and Phil are busy putting together an Intermediate Course, so if you are thinking of taking the next step let someone know so we can gauge interest!  Naturally the Foundation Courses will continue!!

Preparation for the Big Antenna
Good work undertaken today by Edward, Andrew, Kyle, John, Colin, David and Stuart in preparing the site to take Kevin's 75 foot tower. Lot of back breaking digging and brick laying so that the tower's out-riggers remain level.

Link here for some of the team laying a rather heavy plate on which to place the leg.
