Saturday 3rd May
Congratulations to Eddie who has now got his new callsign. Listen out for him using M0ITV.
Brian was "over the moon" today when he bagged UT5UDX/R4. What made it all the sweeter for Brian was that he is a fan of Tottenham Hotspur and so getting Sergei Rebrov in the log was "magic"!

Saturday 19th April
Another busy and fruitful day. Lot of people in attendance and another success in the M3 exam. Pictured here is Kyle soldering up coax feeds to the new face plate for the box he designed and built to accommodate our ever growing Antenna array.

Saturday 12th April
Rod was down early and had the fire going as Anne collected more subscription payments; Kevin and Colin got to grips with doing some more re-wiring; David and Mike worked on pulling in Satellites; Kyle worked on producing a new Antenna terminating box in the HF room; Richard managed to find an Antenna which still had a PL259 on the end of the coax and then worked many CW contacts; Bill, Garry and Gordon took to VHF whilst Peter, Stuart and Brian 'networked'.
John has now got the van to the stage where it is ready for painting. Cedric has put more shelves up in the big room and the toilet is now about the only room where we do not have a PC linked to the Internet!

Saturday 29th March
Big inroads made today into a redesign for the HF Shack - G0GHK will be off air for a week or two whilst it is completed. Congratulations to Gordon McConnell on passing his M3 exam today. Fingers crossed for Bill, Garry and Eddie who all sat the Advanced exam at the club on Wednesday evening. John has been busy during the week and the van now looks as if it is getting ever nearer to the respray (climate permitting). By the way, if you have anything stored in Building 2 and you do not want it painted Blue - move it now!

What did we do in 2007 - you'd be surprised!

Well for those of you that couldn't make it the AGM passed off smoothly.

In my Chairman's report I commented on 2007's activity, and I think its worth recording here some of our achievements:-

  • We hosted Train the Trainers for the RSGB, with around 50 on site, and it was extremely well recevied.
  • Special Event Station at the International Ploughing Festival at Hatfield
  • Special Event Stations at our neighbours The Trolleybus Museum
  • Visits by Brownies, Scouts and the Scunthorpe Science Group
  • We've had talks on Oscilloscopes, Capacitors, Soldering, UFO's, & Hypnosis
  • A demonstration of kites from N.I. Amateurs (very entertaining)
  • With a grant from Humberside & the Wolds Rural Enterprise Agency we trained 15 children and teenagers in Amateur Radio, with half going on to do the Foundation successfully
  • We made our 80m inverted L long wire antenna, which is 35foot up, out of a microwave, and are now looking to make a receiving aerial out of parts of a street lamp!!
  • The examination training and successes continued, and continues - over 250 Foundation passes to date
  • An awful lot of work carried out on Building 1, its been decorated, the Training/Lecture Room has had its suspended ceiling, boarding out, lighting and decorating finished, and we've now got radiators connected to the central heating and working!!  The workshop has been spring cleaned, the Museum has display cabinets and shelving.
  • We've got broadband in and working
  • We started Contesting again
  • And of course there's the Communications van, now MoT'd, being painted with insurance agreed ready to be on the road in April.

What a fantastic achievement, and a great foundation for 2008, and all made possible by lots of work, time and enthusiasm by a great group of people, I named most of them (hopefully) on the night, I won't do it here because I will forget someone!!

I've had to stand down as Chairman due to work commitments, but your new Chairman is John Swift, who I know will do an excellent job, and we've another strong Committee for the coming year who are, or will shortly be, 'named and shamed' under the Committee link

So come on down to the Club on Tuesday nights or on Saturdays, or better still both, and join in the fun.  Its a very friendly club for those that don't know us, you'll be made very welcome, especially by Ann or Brian who will help you make a fantastic investment of £25 in a years membership.

I know I've gone on a bit, but finally can I personally thank all the members of outgoing Committee and ordinary members who made my year as Chairman so successful in 2007 .

Here's to 2008

FARS MOBILE UPDATE
Good news all round. John has managed to get the ol' girl through her MOT and it looks all but a done deal on the Insurance as well. This means that we will definitely be hitting the roads this year and spreading the word. Next step is to get as many able members as possible ( I know "able" is a longshot) and do some rubbing down ready for the paint job. Anybody know any custom paint job guys that want a free canvas?!

Update
Big numbers down at the club again today and good to see. Phillipa was trialling a transmitter that Kevin has built for a DF contest later in the year. John has all but finished the welding on the van and it will very soon be going in for an MOT. HF and VHF shacks well used today.

AGM 2008
The date for this years AGM has been set as 18th March 2008. Please try and make it to the club that night and vote as you see fit. Some of the Committee must stand down this time so if you fancy a go yourself or want to vote a friend into one of the positions then this is the night to do it.

Hatfield Scout Group
Excellent night down at the club with many members turning out to help with the visit of Hatfield Scout Group. This turned out to be an enjoyable visit on both sides and early plans made for an outing with the van to Squirrel Wood later in the year when the Scouts have a camp. Return visits expected from the Scouts for their Communications Badge.
