Blogs

Well, that's it.

8 months, lots of learning, meeting new friends. That's what my blog posts were about. They were about what it was like to start from the very beginning. I hope I've succeeded.

My blog posts will be more useful than "Revising for the next exam" from now on.

What next? Learning. I see radio as a bit like driving... only once you've passed and got the license do you then start learning.

I'm looking forward to the year ahead... Field Days, Contests, Open days, summer fairs. It's going to be brilliant! :)

hi all at fars been a while since been at club with work commitments but hope fully be down soon to play radio , hi andy , dan  ,rick, kev ,dave and the rest of u all

Just a quickie...

So, Happy New Year, one and all! I hope everyone had a good time!

Last visit to the club was on Christmas Eve, so we turned up with a Yule Log (swill roll covered in chocolate) and some mince pies. When I say "we", I mean me, Andy M0VKG and my wife, Josey. Josey's looking at getting licensed and getting on the air, which is only a good thing. Also attending were Kevin G3AAF and Dave G3VZE.

Just imagine was a lady's voice will do for points in contests! :) Lots of chatting was had, with Josey getting a bit of an education in radio.

Time flies and all that.

Is it really two months since I last posted a blog post? My shoddiness knows no bounds.

Two months... two months....

Ah yes. I'd not been to the club for a few weeks until yesterday and my dog Sygma came along with me.

It's been a busy couple of months, but mostly devoid of radio. Me and Andy M0VKG took part in the WAE RTTY contest in November as MX0HTJ and we're still currently taking part in the Ukranian EPC BPSK63 Contest under his callsign, with 173 QSOs up to now.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to the three members who were sucessful in obtaining a pass in the intermediate exam .Please let us know if you have recieved your new call sign ,

Step 2 COMPLETED

So it's been a busy summer, and the Intermediate exam got booked 3 weeks ago.

I took the exam last night with Steve M6SHC and Steve M6AXD. I'm glad to report that all three of us passed with flying colours, adding three new 2E0's to the throng. 50 watts, here we come!

Last weekend at the club, I tried working as many railway clubs as I could, as part of the Railways On The Air event

Not far off now...

Again, it's been really busy, so I've not made a massive amount of headway with the Intermediate study. I've got most of the practicals done, and I've been branching out!

First off, I had a couple of Saturdays doing practicals, then we had the Thorne Summer Festival and a day at the Trolleybus Museum.

Today, it was raning, so I switched between some 2m for the RSGB 144MHz Low Power Contest and some PSK31 on 20m and 40m. Got a few nice contacts, including Israel.

Study, study, study

Sorry for the lack of blog posts. It's all been a bit hectic and I haven't had a chance.

The VHF NFD was a blast, and Andy M0VKG will be posting some pictures and a write up soon. In the meantime, our scoring (as G7HAH) can be found here

D Star

Hello from the "new lad" from Pocklington.... M6PDN. I have started a topic on the forum today Wednesday 29th June 2011 regarding D Star. Who at FARS if anyone owns a D Star radio and would like to move forwards with it as I do. I purchased the Icom IC-2820 some weeks ago and have worked a few repeaters/gateways but no simlex yet. Any takers for this new mode of Qso's... Would love to hear from you??? ...... daveebbs@btinternet.com

Busy, busy, busy

Where to start? I've had two Saturdays at the club since I got the M6, and we've been preparing the comms van (I vote we call her Bessie) ready for the VHF National Field Day .
